Luxurious Water, Oil, and Non-Liquid Towel Warmers
For those of us who have grown up in older brick or brownstone homes with hot-water radiators in every room towels warmers are newly designed but not a new concept for us. The steam heat not only provided an excellent source for heating an entire home, it also defrosted our bodies when we came home on cold or snowy days. The amount of heat radiating was controlled by a valve that was opened at varying degrees depending on how much heat was desired to warm the room or closed for no heat. To defrost hands, toes, and faces in a short period of time, we immediately stood in front of the radiator. We also used the top, flat surface of the radiator to dry gloves, and other articles of clothing. Warming towels before a bath or shower or drying towels to prevent mildew was a given. Those were the good ole days. Today, hydronic towel warmers serve a similar purpose since these units also use hot water to function like space heaters, clothes warmers, and towel warmers. The radiator portion of Myson's DEE VR1 towel warmer unit looks most like the radiators of years ago, although on a much smaller scale.
Another type of towel warmer is electric and is filled with oil instead of water. Although expensive, these towel warmers take quite some time to warm up the oil which is usually mineral oil. Because of a low wattage heating element, it usually takes around 45 minutes to heat up if an optional timer is not installed. These towel warmers are also very good for mildew prevention and for muscle relaxation when the heated articles are wrapped around the body. However, the long wait time may be a drawback for some consumers. In most cases, installation does not require the help of a plumber as recommended for hydronic towel warmer models.
A second type of electric towel warmer is a non-liquid heating unit that would not be too new or unfamiliar to consumers in modern day living when we think about it. Think about heated automobile seats powered by electricity, not water or oil. It is imaginable that a similar type of electrical technology would be used in towel warmers. For example, the manufacturer, AMBA, uses an innovative, patent pending Italian heating system with no liquid in its beautiful collection of electric towel warmers that include wall-hung and free-standing models. The Solo product line is free-standing and quite mobile; it can easily move from the bathroom to any other room. For some AMBA models, such as the Quadro product line, the size of the unit can be scaled up or down based on the number of bars; and all models can be ordered in brushed, polished, or oil-rubbed bronze finishes, adding to the customers' personal choice. The luxurious AMBA lines of towel warmers are made from high quality stainless steel. A value-added benefit is that these towel warmers can withstand many kinds of indoor and outdoor conditions. For example, it can be used near pools or other water venues since number 304 stainless steel is durable, non-corrosive and environmentally friendly. Depending on the model, AMBA towel warmers heats up anywhere from 131 °F to 167 °F.
A third type of electric, non-liquid, towel warmer is the Home Spa Towel Warming Drawer™ made by Jacuzzi that installs into standard bathroom cabinets. A major difference between this type of towel warmer and other electric towel warmers is that this appliance is specifically designed to warm towels prior to use. It is not recommended that this appliance be used to dry damp or wet towels, or to dry any other items. Unlike the AMBA towel warmers, Jacuzzi's stainless steel constructed towel warmers are not approved for outside installations or use; and it is recommended that a licensed contractor perform the indoor installation. However, its benefits are compactness and self-containment within a drawer with the ability to warm up to 4 towels at a time to 120°F. Additionally, a customized cabinet and door panel installation can match existing or new decor. A towel warmer drawer can turn any bathroom into a luxurious home spa with heated towels waiting after an equally luxurious bath.
